Last night I attempted a little musical experiment. Thanks to here I now have 16 different version/covers of one of my all time favourite tracks - Blue Monday by the unsurpassable New Order. My little experiment had the following hypothesis ( I know it’s technically not a hypothesis, but play along):
‘It is possible to actively hate a favourite song by listening to enough people butchering it.’
And so it began, I listened to every single one of them all the way through, no skipping, no turning down the volume until the next track. My results? Well I still love Blue Monday but I can quite honestly say that:
a) New Order covers by shitty metal bands are rubbish
b) Marilyn Manson really should have been shot/drowned/dashed against rocks at birth
c) The 7 minute 29 second 12″ version by New Order themselves is without doubt one of the finest records of all time!
As you can see my hypothesis was incorrect.
Today I have mostly been listening to : The Eames Era
